Belay Classes

Learn the basics of knot tying and belay technique so that you and your climbing partner(s) can top-rope climb in our facility without the need of our staff. This 1.5-hour class will include a walk through of our climbing wall with explanation, demonstration and practice of belay procedures such as tying a figure 8 follow-through knot, safe communication methods, belay technique, and safety considerations for climbing.

This course is designed for people with little or no climbing experience and is a great first-time climbing experience.

Belay Class Schedule:

  • Wednesdays from 4:30-5:45pm
  • Fridays from 3:00-4:15pm
  • Sundays 3-4:15pm

The class is FREE, but pre-registration is required to ensure proper student-instructor ratios.

After successful completion of the class, you'll need to return to the Climbing Wall on a different day to demonstrate skill retention in order to become Belay Certified.

OA provides all equipment (harness, shoes, ropes, etc.). You should come prepared wearing athletic clothing. Please bring your prox (ID card).

Please arrive 10 minutes early to complete waivers and get set up with climbing gear for the class.

Climbing is available for Princeton University students, faculty, staff, spouses, and visiting summer students.
