First Aid & CPR

Outdoor Action offers two different First Aid Training Courses.

Wilderness First Aid (WFA): 18 hours

Wilderness First Aid is an intensive course that covers patient examination and evaluation, body systems and anatomy, wound care, splinting, environmental emergencies, and backcountry medicine. Hands-on simulations provide first-hand training in treating patients.

This course will be taught by professionals from Wilderness Medical Associates. After successful completion of all course requirements, participants will be issued a WMA Wilderness First Aid certification.

This is an 18-hour course split across 2 days. In order to become certified, 100% attendance of both days is required.

This course is fully subsidized by OA for all who intend to become OA Leaders.

Registration preference is given to (in this order):
1. Students who have already completed all of the other OA Leader Training requirements.
2. Students who will be completing the OA Leader Training.
3. Anyone else.

Participants who successfully pass CPR and Wilderness First Aid will have met the First Aid requirements for OA Leader Training.

Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA): 40 hours

Wilderness Advanced First Aid is comprehensive medical training designed for remote professionals or wilderness leaders who venture into remote and challenging environments. Wilderness Medicine differs significantly from standard first aid courses and other training that are oriented toward urban environments. This course teaches how to manage medical emergencies when hospitals and rescue services may not be available for an extensive time period. We prepare students for emergency situations that involve prolonged patient care, severe environments, and improvised equipment.

This is a 40-hour course split across 4 days. In order to become certified, 100% attendance of all 4 days is required.  This fulfills the first aid (and CPR) training component for OA Leaders.
