Becoming a Technical Skills Instructor

Technical Skills Trainers (TSTs) are key members of the leaders-in-training instructional team. They are OA Leaders who go through additional training to solidify their outdoor technical skill as well as develop skills necessary to be effective teachers. TSTs teach the LNT & Technical Skills course to students going through OA Leader Training. Typically, classes occur during Fall Break, Wintersession, Spring Break, and April, and all teaching & curriculum preparation is paid work.

You need to have completed all of OA Leader Training (including an LTT) before becoming a trainer.  Preference is for those who have led at least one OA multi-day trip. You need to participate in a Technical Skills Training Trip which cover skill-building and teaching for basic outdoor technical skills.
