I am delighted to share that Candance Brendler will be joining ODUS as the new Outdoor Action Program Coordinator starting May 15. Candace is completing her Master of Science in Sports Recreation & Leadership at James Madison University. As a graduate assistant at JMU Candace has worked with multiple aspects of the JMU outdoor program including their three-day Madison Orientation Adventure Trip program and has designed and taught outdoor leadership and wilderness first aid to their student trip leaders. In her role with JMU Campus Recreation she directed 65 student employees including climbing wall staff, rental service staff, challenge course facilitators, and trip leaders. She coordinated special events and oversaw equipment and safety compliance at the University Recreation Center. Candace did a graduate internship at West Virginia University working with their Quest First Year Trips program managing four 5-day outdoor orientation programs over the course of last summer.
Prior to her graduate program, Candace served as a middle school science and math teacher in an Expeditionary Learning School in Colorado and at an international school in Thailand. She has over twenty years of experience guiding outdoor trips for multiple organizations in Colorado, Utah and Maryland including whitewater rafting, kayaking, and backpacking. Candace is a Wilderness EMT, first aid instructor, whitewater kayaking instructor, and top rope climbing instructor.
