Outdoor Action offers hiking and backpacking opportunities as part of the OA Frosh Trip and Leader Training Programs as well as trip activities during the academic year.
Upcoming Trips:
Leading a group on a backcountry trip requires extensive training in wilderness camping skills. The Technical Skills component is designed to teach the outdoor skills necessary to lead multi-day trips in the backcountry. Topics covered include route planning, navigation, outdoor cooking, and campsite selection and set-up.
Whether you want to be prepared for an emergency on campus, at home, or when traveling in the wilderness, make sure you have the proper training to safeguard yourself and others. CPR and an approved wilderness first aid course can help prepare you to handle a first aid emergency.
Here is all the information you need to pack for your Frosh Trip. When selecting gear for the trip, remember that you’ll be in the outdoors for five days, so you’ll want to bring only those things you need to be comfortable. Leave behind what isn’t necessary—extra stuff just adds weight. This equipment list is based on 40 years of experience running Outdoor Action Trips. If you bring ALL the gear on the list and ONLY the gear on the list, you’ll be comfortable in virtually any situation you’ll encounter on Frosh Trip.
