Outdoor Action is Princeton University's largest student leadership training program. Our core mission is to facilitate the development of leadership skills among Princeton University students through active leadership experiences.
Becoming an OA Leader is one of the most valuable things a student can do during their four years at Princeton. OA provides the most extensive leadership development program on campus. We teach skills that allow students to develop their confidence to make critical decisions, assess their group and develop effective communication, respect diversity and encourage students to explore cultures and experiences outside their confort zone.
Leader Trainers carry the tremendous responsibility of training Princeton students to lead groups in a backcountry setting. As a result, we take the qualities and qualifications of a Leader Trainer applicant very seriously. A Leader Trainer applicant should be comfortable in an (outdoor) group leadership role and ready to take on the next level of leadership: teaching others how to lead.
The Advanced Leader Training Trip (ALTT) is a 5-night backpacking trip designed for those OA leaders who have led at least one trip and who want to focus on further developing their leadership and interpersonal skills. The advanced leadership techniques developed during the trip will be applicable both to the wilderness and to other areas of campus life.
Thanks to a grant from the Feather Foundation, Outdoor Action has been able to send a group of OA Leaders each year to a Leave No Trace Master Educator Course. Find out how this course has impacted their views on Leave No Trace and sustainability
