Many students with diabetes have participated in the trip or led trips. These are a few things we have learned over the years to help you have a good week on the trip.

Tell us About your Insulin Regimen

When completing your health form, let us know about your daily insulin regimen. Are you taking insulin orally, spray, by injection, or an insulin pump? What type of glucose monitoring meter do you use? What are the temperature requirements for your medication and meter or pump? All of these things can help us place you on a trip that's in the right environment for you.

During the year, OA Leaders are responsible for planning both single- and multi-day trips.  As trip leaders, you will need to apply to lead, contact participants, plan the trip, manage equipment needs, and complete various post-trip responsibilities, such as de-issue and expense reports.

Leader Trainers carry the tremendous responsibility of training Princeton students to lead groups in a backcountry setting. As a result, we take the qualities and qualifications of a Leader Trainer applicant very seriously. A Leader Trainer applicant should be comfortable in an (outdoor) group leadership role and ready to take on the next level of leadership: teaching others how to lead.

The Advanced Leader Training Trip (ALTT) is a 5-night backpacking trip designed for those OA leaders who have led at least one trip and who want to focus on further developing their leadership and interpersonal skills. The advanced leadership techniques developed during the trip will be applicable both to the wilderness and to other areas of campus life.

Josh Miner '43 was an inspirational leader. As a founding trustee of Outward Bound USA Joosh was instrumental in bringing the idea of outdoor-based experiential learning and character development to the US. His legacy lives on at Princeton through Outdoor Action.
